וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶל־אִתַּ֣י הַגִּתִּ֔י לָ֧מָּה תֵלֵ֛ךְ גַּם־אַתָּ֖ה אִתָּ֑נוּ שׁ֣וּב וְשֵׁ֤ב עִם־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ כִּֽי־נָכְרִ֣י אַ֔תָּה וְגַם־גֹּלֶ֥ה אַתָּ֖ה לִמְקוֹמֶֽךָ׃

Da sprach der König zu Ittai, dem Gittiter: 'Warum gehst du auch mit uns? kehre zurück und bleibe beim König; denn du bist ein Ausländer und auch ein Exil von deinem eigenen Ort.

And even if you are exiled from the king [Avsholom] because you do not want to be with him, then return to your home because it is not good to go with me because you [just] came yesterday.7This verse blends into verse 20 where Dovid explains more about why it is disadvantageous for Itai to stay with him.
